So I went to the beach yesterday. It was Wingersheek beach in Gloucester, MA. When we got there, the beach was so crowded. You should have seen it. The whole entire beach was covered with brightly colored umbrellas, towels, and chairs. But we did find a big empty space sort of in the middle of the beach. First we ate a quick lunch, then ran into the water. It was so cold! But I went under and after that it felt better. I took my goggles and looked under the water. Me and my friend and her brother found two hermit crabs!
Something that I thought was weird was that we went out not very far and it was just about up to our shoulders. But then later, around 8:00, we went out twice as far as before and it was only up to the middle of our thighs.
There were these rock island sort of things that were off to the side in the water. There were life guards standing on the parts that we couldn't go on. But at five they all left so we could go on whatever we wanted. There was a big, tall rock island that we went on the most. We could walk to it most of the way but then there was this ditch, and then a rock that was under water. Me and my friend stood on that and looked under water with our goggles and it was like a trench. So we had to swim from the under water rock to the rock island. It was hard to get onto the first rock of the island because it was super slippery. We had to jump-carefully- from rock to rock and occasionally swim. There was this super tall and giant boulder that I just wouldn't go on because, one, I'm afraid of heights, and two, I was afraid that I would be able to get down. My friend went up and had a difficult time getting down, so I was glad that I didn't go up.
There was this other rock island that me and my friend went onto. It was smaller, but definitely more slippery. I was on a rock and I want to get a look at something on the bottom so I slid off the rock so that I was still hanging on and looked. But when I tried to get back up, I couldn't because of the slipperiness. So there I was hanging off the rock when the tide decides to pick up. The tide pushed me off the rock so that I was in the crack of that rock and another and then it kept banging me against it. Now I have a nasty bruise on my side and it's so sore. My friend got into the water to help me and she said to just let go of the rock and go down to the floor. I was a bit afraid to but I did. Then we had to climb up another rock. She got up really quickly but when I tried, the rock was as slippery as ice. I got up as far as I could then my friend helped me the rest. She's the same size (almost exactly) of me but since she's broken so many bones, she's gotten tougher and isn't afraid to do those sort of things.
So that was the end of our rock island adventure. Later that day, when I was taking a shower, I noticed that my feet felt really tough like elephant skin, because I was bouncing around on all those jagged rocks.
After the beach, her mom and another friend's mom took us all to the Cheese Cake Factory. It was really good there but I didn't order cheese cake because I was too full. I did try some other people's cake and it was good! Now that I'm not full anymore, I'm craving cheese cake! And by the way, I found out that carrot cake is delicious!
The beach was so much fun! We stayed till about 8:00 and the beach was so empty when we left. I guess it's sort of an annual thing for me now, going to the beach a few days until school starts! I did miss the CS&T camping out thing, but it was definitely worth it!
