Winter Social
On Friday, the sixth and fifth grade had the winter wonderland social. It's kind of like a party. The seventh and eighth graders have a dance later on Friday. So at the social, there was a DJ who played all the new pop music. He was set up in the cafeteria. All the tables were folded up and pushed to the side. Then the disco ball was turned on! (Hey, does anyone know how a disco ball works). Last year, I used to chase the little lights that the disco ball made around the cafeteria. There was a table set up where you could buy refreshments. The kids at the social put their backpacks lining the halls. In the gym, some games were set up. There was stuff like Frisbee throwing and mostly throwing games. The seventh and eighth grade student council sets it all up. If you play them, you get raffle tickets. You write your name on the back, and put it into a bucket and at the end of the social, the seventh graders raffle things away. They raffle away sport shirts and hats and gift cards. On the other side of the gym there is basketball. The adults put a few basketballs in the gym and people just start playing. Another fun thing at the social is the thing where you guess how many tootsie rolls are in a container and then you get the tootsie rolls if you are the closest. Some parents volunteer to help out at the socials and teachers come too. My homeroom teacher, Mrs. Trainer came with her new baby. The baby was so cute! The funnest thing at the social is when Cotton Eye Joe and Cha Cha Slide come on. Almost everybody at the social (I mean all kids of course) get in lines and dance them. I always wonder if the teachers think it's funny to see everyone dance. I imagine it would be!
